Background of Union- Was created for the merging of two groups the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee led by Filipino organizer Larry Itliong and National Farmers Association led by Caesar Chavez. This union mostly help people collect their unemployment.
Members- The members of the United Farmers Union consists of the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee and the National Farmers Association and anyone who is part of both the Unions. The members who run the union are split evenly split through both the AWOC and the NFA and currently have over ten thousand members.
Purpose of The Union- The group was originally a workers' rights organization that helped workers get unemployment insurance but rapidly became a union of farm workers. The shift occurred when the NFWA went out on strike in support of the mostly Filipino farm workers of the AWOC in Delano, California who had previously initiated a grape strike on September 8, 1965. The NFWA and the AWOC, recognizing their common goals and methods, and realizing the strengths of coalition formation, jointly formed the United Farm Workers Organizing Committee on August 22, 1966.
The Leadership- The leadership of the United Farm Workers Union are Dolores Huerta, César Chávez, and Larry Itliong run the farm association.
